ABOUT SCOMER

MEDICAL EDUCATION shall be defined as the process of acquiring skill and knowledge in the making of a Medical Doctor. The aims of the medical education activity of FAMSA shall be to improve the standard of medical education.

Medical Research shall be defined as the process of Scientific Investigation of skill and knowledge required for the practice of medicine. The aims of the Medical Research activity of FAMSA shall be:

  • To encourage the training of medical students in research principles and procedures.
  • To emphasize and stimulate original thinking and initiative by medical students.
  • To co-ordinate researches and appraise their practical application.
  • To collate and disseminate original findings.

CALL FOR MEMBERS OF THE STANDING COMMITTEE ON MEDICAL EDUCATION AND RESEARCH(SCOMER) – FAMSA

Greetings Africa!

INTRODUCTION

Standing Committee on Medical Education and Research (SCOMER) is one of the exciting standing committees of FAMSA concerned with the acquiring skills and knowledge in the making of a medical doctor and also scientific investigation of skill and knowledge required for the practice of medicine.

SCOMER SHALL
–Be responsible for co-ordinating and guiding the work of the committee in the field of Medical Education and Research.
-Furnish the member associations with the FAMSA regulations and guidelines for Medical Education and Research activities.
-Invite and receive notifications and the name of their MSA officers for medical Education and Research activity.
-Consolidate arrangements with the medical school authorities for co operation and supervision of the Medical Education and Research activity of the respective member associations.
–Draw up a list of the names of MSA Officers of participating member associations. 
–Be well informed on important publications concerned with medical education and medical research, and also being informed about the curricula in medical schools of all member associations.
–Conduct a survey on special topics concerning medical student education.
–Distribute information by sending periodic circular letters to all MSA Officers for Medical Education and Research which shall contain:
 1. Summaries of reports received from various MSA Officers by Chairman SCOMER .

2.Details of future conference dealing with medical education and student Research.
 3. Lists of new literature on medical education and student research.

Applicant Criteria for all positions –.
-Must be an undergraduate medical student from a Medical Student Association in Africa.
-Must participate in discussions within the committee in looking for solutions to problems.
-Must be accountable to FAMSA
-Must be a team player, competent and willing to work.
-Must be fluent in English, French or Arabic.

VACANT POSITIONS

  1. ORGANIZING SECRETARY
    -Ensure meetings are held effectively and minuted
    -Maintain effective records and administrations
    -Maintain communication and correspondence
    -Assist the Organizing Secretary with all FAMSA SCOMER official write-ups

  2. PUBLICITY OFFICERS
    -Monitor and update all SCOMER media pages
    -Control of all FAMSA SCOMER online advocacy and campaigns
    (Available slots – 2)
  3. PROGRAMME AND DESIGN OFFICERS
    -Plan activity guides for programs
    -Ensure designs are ready for campaign posters
    -Serve as the SCOMER Local Organizing committee
    -come up with online surveys/questionnaires/evaluation forms.

  4. MONITORING AND EVALUATION OFFICERs
    -Shall compile reports for each SCOMER activity
    -Monitor the progress of activities and projects
    -Submit monthly reports to SCOMER Chair.

  5. FINANCE AND DEVELOPMENT OFFICERs
    -Source out related mother agencies for partnerships and sponsorships
    -Keep records of SCOMER financial activities

  6. FRANCOPHONE TRANSLATORS
    -Translate SCOMER documents as necessary
    -Support the program and design officers in program planning
    (Available slots – 2)
  7. PUBLICATIONS. -Work with SCOPUB (Standing Committee on Publications) in educating the members on research and publishing.
    -Research on news affecting the medical education and research world to be published in the FAMSA newsletter
    -Interviewing relevant stakeholders to the standing committee and have the interview into articles.
    -Call for articles on medical and education field across all Medical Student Associations.
    -Design posters and graphics for SCOMER
    -Coordinate with SCOPUB for collaborative work.
    -Responsible for monthly publications on Medical education and Research
  8. National   Officers: Be in charge of all FAMSA-SCOMER activities in  their Countries, coordinate the activities of all the Local officers in their countries, prepare quarterly reports of SCOMER activities and send them to SCOMER chair, responsible for monthly publications on Medical Education and Research, Organize monthly online lectures in coordination with SCOMER chair.

  9. Local Officers
    -Shall be the  contact person for FAMSA-SCOMER in their Schools
    -Shall organize rallies, online campaigns, outreaches. etc. with their Local team as directed by the headquarters
